What the Children Do

In Art this half term we have been inspired by the artist, Samantha Stephenson to create our own paper sculptures. Samantha Stephenson is an Australian artist who uses metal to create sculptures that show movement by using curves. She uses colour to make her sculptures seem full of energy.

Week 1 - Tube towers - We explored rolling paper to create different sized tubes and thought about how we can fix them to a card base.

Week 2 - 3D Drawings - We learnt how to manipulate paper in different ways: rolling, folding, bending and stretching to create a 3D drawing.

Week 3 - Tree of life - After learning about what a tree of life is and how it appears in different cultures we designed our own.

Week 4 - Tree of Life - We used our knowledge of paper sculpture to create a 3D version of our designs.

Week 5 - Final piece - To end our sculpture unit we applied all our learnt techniques to construct a 3D dragon inspired by our text driver 'The Clockwork Dragon'.
